In the last decade, digital citizenship has been a topic of great relevance, that is, the ability and ethical values to participate in a digital society (UNESCO, 2019), it has become an essential fact, which has led us towards almost unprecedented educational innovation. The rise of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has mobilized and revolutionized the role of the teacher

Educational systems have integrated ICT, effectively, to transform pedagogy and empower teachers and students. UNESCO developed a dynamic framework to incorporate the developments and changes inherent to the digital society that reflects the prevailing approach to the relationship between technology and education. This implies that updating teachers in digital skills is imperative due to current technological advances and the changing demands of life and work. Thus, for example, learning objects, educational resources, mobile technologies, and artificial intelligence, among others, were included, all under the norm of inclusive education with the principles of equality and equity.

This development of skills, motivation, and commitment will be reflected in the digital transformation and in the ability to develop critical, reflective, and creative thinking in students, who are capable of solving problems and being innovative, collaborative, and committed to society. 

This special edition issue addresses various topics related to competencies, innovative educational experiences, and topics linked to digital transformation.
